Post 6: Postgraduate studies

Hi! In this post i’m going to write about the postgraduate studies I may want to do in the future. Up until now I haven’t given any thought to postgraduate studies, because I haven’t finished my psychology undergraduate studies yet. To be honest I don’t really like studying that much. I’d rather work without the need to have more university degrees, however I may need to get a masters or a PHD, since that would improve my chances of getting a very good job. If I were to do so, I’d try to study while working, because I have my mind set on paying for my own degrees after finishing my undergraduate courses, and that means I can’t study abroad, which I don’t find attractive anyway. As I said, a postgraduate degree isn’t very appealing to me, but that doesn't mean I don’t think that it’s important to learn constantly about how one’s career might change through the years, and that’s why going to conferences and short courses is so important. If professionals of any kind don’t work on...

Post 5: My future job

Hi! In this post I will write about my future job. Since I study psychology I suppose my future job will be as a psychologist. One of the advantages of being a psychologist is that there are a number of different careers one can follow. Many people think that psychologists work only in therapy, but that is not the case, there are several jobs that may be done by psychologists such as human resources, investigation and working in the legal system.  Despite the existence of all those career choices, the one that appeals to me the most is doing therapy, however, I still don't know for sure if that is what i'm going to do in the future. I'm a little bit scared of being a therapist, because it's a very delicate job, what therapists do may have a huge impact on their patients and I don't want to be the one that screws up people's lives. There's really no way of knowing how good of a therapist I will be until I actually begin working with real patients. At leas...

My favorite band

Imagen
Hi! In this post, I will talk about my favorite band, Iron Maiden, British heavy metal band that started around 1980. I came across Iron Maiden when I was about 9 or 10 years old, at first I was into the whole gory heavy metal imagery, but after listening to every album I've come to like iron Maiden above every other band, be it heavy metal or not. I think the main reason I still like Maiden so much is that I think of them as the whole package: lyrics, album illustrations, themes, trajectory, showmanship and, of course, music. My favorite album by Maiden is Seventh Son of a Seventh Son from 1988, which is their sixth studio album and seventh album overall, hence the name Seventh Son... It includes one of their most famous songs, The Evil That Men Do, but also some other songs that I really like, such as Infinite Dreams, Can I Play With Madness and the eponymous Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. I've seen Maiden play live on three occasions, in 2011, in 2013 and in 2016, the fir...

Post 2: My Pets

Imagen
Hi! On this occasion I will write about my pets and what is it that makes them so special for me. I have two dogs, Juana and Ron, and a cat called Romero, I say 'have' instead of 'own', because I dislike the idea of pets being of one's ownership, I'd rather think of them as family members.  My oldest pet is Ron, a poodle-like, caramel brown dog, he's old and grumpy now but he's still the first one to greet anyone that enters my house. I found him abandoned in a park, the guard there told me the dog had been there for a week so I decided to adopt him. The other one, Juana is a black and brown mongrel she-dog, she's called after Joanna of Castile, because she has crazy, human-like, pale blue eyes. She appeared three years ago alone, lost and scared right oustside my house and I took her in while me and my family tried to find her home. After asking around the neighbourhood we concluded that she had been abandoned instead of lost so we decided to let h...

Post 1: A country I'd like to visit

Imagen
Hi! In my first blog entry I'll tell you about a country I'd like to visit. I've always wanted to visit Mexico, specially Mexico City which is the capital of said country. Ever since I read a couple of books by Roberto Bolaño, I've taken great interest in the landmarks where those novels take place in Mexico City such as the main streets, Plaza Garibaldi, and the colonial buildings. Also, a friend of mine went there a couple of years ago and he had a great time, or at least thats what he told me anyway. My friend also said he found the "Chilangos" (which is the way people from Mexico City call themselves) to be very friendly towards spanish-speaking tourists.  Mexican food is known to be very hot and spicy, which I like a lot. Also I feel like there's a lot of talk about mexican food but we don't have a very good grasp on how it actually is, since here we only really know about tacos. Besides the food, Ive always dreamed of visiting the ancient...
