Post 5: My future job

Hi! In this post I will write about my future job. Since I study psychology I suppose my future job will be as a psychologist. One of the advantages of being a psychologist is that there are a number of different careers one can follow. Many people think that psychologists work only in therapy, but that is not the case, there are several jobs that may be done by psychologists such as human resources, investigation and working in the legal system.
Despite the existence of all those career choices, the one that appeals to me the most is doing therapy, however, I still don't know for sure if that is what i'm going to do in the future. I'm a little bit scared of being a therapist, because it's a very delicate job, what therapists do may have a huge impact on their patients and I don't want to be the one that screws up people's lives. There's really no way of knowing how good of a therapist I will be until I actually begin working with real patients. At least I've been going to a therapist for the last couple of years and most of the teachers I've had in the university agree on the necessity of going through therapy to exercise it.

If by the end of my university years I realise that therapy is not the job for me, I probably will try my luck with other psychology jobs. Working in the legal system is appealing to me as well, so that might be a good option. Besides people say there are more jobs available there than in therapy, I want to get paid, that’s for sure, but the most important thing to me is to feel that what I studied is needed and useful. I also would like to work somewhere else for some time, but only if it’s inside of Chile.
